Hidden in Noble Silence

Ligatne

Karlamuiza is 11 km away from Ligatne. Both Augsligatne and Ligatne are great places for active recreation and entertainment. Vienkoci park and its Wood Craft Museum as well as Spoon Workshop are all worth a visit.

Families with kids will love the Safari Park More wildlife garden, which has more than 300 animals, including red deer, fallow deer, and a variety of birds. The Zeit Cultural Entertainment Centre offers plenty of activities for children, including a playroom with a high-quality net park and net mazes that are 4-7m tall.

The city's visitors are encouraged to take a trip to the Ligatne Ferry crossing the Gauja. The only ferry of its kind to be powered by river current in Latvia and Baltics. It is listed as a national monument of technical history. The ferry was built by joining two steel boats and a plank-decked boat. A cable across the river stops the ferry from being carried along by the current. The ferry was constructed on the site where a bridge that had been destroyed during World War II to allow workers and schoolchildren to access Ligatne.

Ligatne nature trails

The Ligatne nature trails are located along the Gauja river, in an area of wooded ravines. The trails offer visitors the chance to observe wild animals in Latvia, including red deer and roe-deer, wild boars, bears, black foxes, and lynxes in open-air aviaries.

The park has several footpaths that are 5 km long and of varying difficulty. There are sections of wooden stairs and dirt or gravel surfaces on the trails. The 22-metre observation tower offers visitors a wonderful view of the surrounding nature. The trails take between 2 and 3 hours to walk.
